OneDrive is for personal employee items. SharePoint is for company shared documents.
When to use OneDrive
- Personal work related documents. Your daily hitlist, photos, scratchpad, etc.
- Desktop items
- Document folder items
- Personal Photos and videos
- A temporary document that would be shared with one or two people.
When to use SharePoint
- When working with a team or group of people
- Storing company information
- Any items that would typically be kept on a server
- Engineering documents
- Company Procedure documents
- Project documents and information
Which one is which?
Look for the logos!

Your OneDrive (for personal documents) will say “OneDrive – Company Name” and have a cloud icon. Your SharePoint Document libraries will simply say your company name, and have a corporate logo.
